A little history ...
The peaceful development of the edge of the Slavs of gradually going down the Suzdal plain field Klyazma. Already in the 11th century the land around Gorohovets were inhabited by Slavs in the 12th century, the city begins to form Gorohovets - the new guardian of the south-eastern border of the Vladimir-Suzdal principality. In 1539 the neighborhood of the city were destroyed as a result of the raid of the Kazan Tatars. According to legend, during the siege of Gorohovets in the sunset over the mountain it was the image of a huge warrior with a sword in his hand. The heyday of the city was at the end 17 - early. 18th century. By 1646 on the banks of the Klyazma chopped jail was built with towers, wooden churches of the Annunciation and the Resurrection. By decree of Tsar Mikhail Fedorovich it was founded a monastery here. And by the end of the 17th century in the city there are stone buildings. With a prime location Gorokhovets on the highway Moscow - Nizhny Novgorod, local merchants grew rich quickly, and trying to perpetuate his name, makes a huge contribution to the construction of stone temples. Gorohovets interesting because it is one of the few cities in Russia, where there is an 17th-century civil architecture. Among the seven surviving stone chambers Gorohovetsky tenements no two are alike. In 1970 Gorohovets included in the list of historic Russian cities with monuments of great value. He logged on the tourist route «The Golden Ring of Russia».
